Looking back at high pressure laminates in the 80’s
I’ve been in the decorative surfaces industry for over 30 years and I’ve always thought that Laminates products would be great for entry doors.
In the 1980s, no-one ever seemed to use the product as a surface for entry doors.
I’d see adds and pictures from old magazines that looked like laminate on doors and id ask why isn’t this product used on entry doors now?
My ideas about this would be dismissed with comments like paint is cheaper or they just use a plywood and lacquer, we sell (HPL) High Pressure Laminate for benchtops was the mantra of the local laminate producers. Producers of panel products just went for the easy way out supplying, 32mm MDF in bulk to projects to be decorated with paint.
High Pressure Laminate Doors have been “Big In Europe” for over 50 years and things are changing locally down under.
