Located at the Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) campus, the Secure Mental Health Rehabilitation Unit (SMHRU) is a 40-bed, two-storey purpose-designed facility.
The new facility provides a more contemporary environment for mental health consumers, carers and staff, and will address the growing demand for mental health rehabilitation places.
The emphasis of the best practice mental health design is on rehabilitation and a people friendly environment with the interior look and feel having more residential similarities than clinical, and a strong sense of place material and colour palette to reflect the arrival, recovery and assessment zones in the building.
The intention was to ensure that users of the unit, had all the facilities and comfort that they would experience at home. The use of Timeless Oak Biscuit by Innovus and Sand Grey by Duropal as a base colour palette on both joinery and doors achieves this exuding a more comfortable, inviting environment.
LI Surfaces was proud to have worked with ARCH (formerly DWP) and Besix Watpac to achieve such an outstanding project that is not only aesthetically pleasing but also addresses all of the practical necessities that this environment would require.
