Designed by architects Boffa Robertson Group, exterior detail architect Jackson Teece Architects and Interiors by interior architectural practice, CHADA. This 168 room Aged care facility and retirement living facility has a dementia centre, behavioural secure unit and a specialist palliative care wing.

CHADA principal, Juliet Ashworth, said the brief was to create a traditional aged care facility that looked more like a beautiful home or a luxurious hotel. The design was to create an environment that helps to deliver warmth, worth and wellbeing – so every resident could continue to live life on their terms.

With its light, spacious, stylish and comfortable feel and facilities include flexible living spaces, a café, hairdressers and nail spa, wellness centre, family accommodation and specially designed large suites to suit couples who want to stay together, the design has been to deliberately make the resident’s twilight years as comfortable as possible.

Design Trends for Aged Care Facilities has transformed with many industry professionals recognising that these types of facilities need to minimise the public perception of ‘institutionalisation’. Juliet Ashworth and the team at CHADA have done a wonderful job of achieving this through challenging the ‘norm’ and introducing a warm wood finish product throughout, whilst also manipulating the grain direction of the panels to ensure the space achieved the brief that was set out to achieve.

Utilising the OPTIMUM HPL for Doors ensured longevity to the design whilst also maintaining a high level of cleanliness through the products Anti-Microbial and chemical resistant properties.

Designing retirement living facilities is all about creating a community where people have choices, which range from complete privacy through to full engagement with the wider world.
