Award winning healthcare project features Lamicolor Duropal products

Sargood on Collaroy is Australia’s first luxury resort purpose built for people living with a spinal cord injury.  Designed from the ground up with wheelchair accessibility in mind featuring 17 self-contained apartments overlooking Collaroy Beach.

Sargood is a health facility that feels like a resort that took home the ‘Australian Good Design Award’ for best in commercial and residential architecture.

The project aimed to transcend the design of more typical healthcare facilities by embracing contextual architecture & warm, textured materials, the facility provides for contemplation & social interaction.

“The built environment has a profound psychological impact on quality of life,” says Greg Barnett, WMK’s managing director. “If it looked, felt, or smelt like a hospital we would have failed in our job.”

The villas incorporate sophisticated interiors, Sargood Ambassador Nick Taylor says: “It looks luxurious before it looks accessible.”
The architecture is seamless with the interiors, blurring inside & outside. As well as enhancing the visual & textural experience of the facility, the furniture was designed to facilitate functionality.

That such a high quality & complete design outcome was achieved in this financial context and tight budgeting controls is testament to the will, energy and smarts of the community and the will and energy of the design team.

All of us here at Lamicolor Duropal are very proud to be part of such a prestigious and high quality centre. Our products were perfectly suited to the design expectations and operational requirements and wear and tear of this fully functioning health facility.
